DULCE DE LECHE
We all know and have tasted dulce de leche, but do you know what it is and how it’s made? I think people think it’s a product that has to be bought, but the truth is that dulce de leche is caramelised condensed milk and is really easy to make.
Ever since making this, I always have it in my pantry. I usually wait till condensed milk is on sale and turn a bunch of cans into this sweet, decadent treat.
DULCE DE LECHE
Yield: 1 can
Materials
- 1 can condensed milk
Instructions
- Remove the wrapper from the can and place in a pot on it's side.
- Cover with water, having at least 2 inches of water above the can.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to keep it boiling but not a rolling boil.
- Boil for 3 hours, add hot water when the water level drops.
- Once 3 hours have passed, turn of heat and let cool overnight. Do not open the can while hot, it can explode.
Notes
I use a big pot and make 3 cans at once. Then I label it and the expiration date is usually on the bottom of the can. Store it in your pantry as you would condensed milk.
Once opened, keep in your fridge.Â
Make sure the cans are on their sides when boiling.Â
