VANILLA CAKE WITH ROSES

I was suppose to make a wedding cake, but with a change of plans I ended up making a birthday cake. This cake is so beautiful, as most things with roses are and quite easy to make.

Whether it’s for a wedding, birthday or just a celebrate, here are a few tips to make a cake like this.

VANILLA CAKE WITH ROSES

Yield: 6 portions

Equipment

  • round cake pans

Materials

Cake

  • 1 vanilla cake mix
  • 1 egg
  • cup vegetable oil
  • cup water
  • ½ tsp vanilla beans
  • 1 cup strawberry jam

Icing

  • ½ cup butter room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 cups icing sugar
  • ¼ cup whipping cream

Decoration

  • roses and baby's breathe
  • masking tape
  • gold dust optional

Instructions

  • Make the cake according to the instructions on the box.
  • Add the vanilla beans.
  • Spray cooking spray on the pans and fill 3/4 the way with the batter.
  • Bake fore 20 minutes.
  • Take out of the oven and let cool completely in pan.
  • Meanwhile make the icing.
  • Put butter, vanilla, and cream into a stand mixer and blend. Slowly add the icing sugar. If you icing is too stiff, add more cream.
  • Cut rose stems to about 2 inches. Wrap with masking tape. Clip the baby's breathe into small pieces.
  • Put strawberry jam between the layers of cake. Ice the cake.
  • After the cake is iced, refrigerate for 10 minutes. Take out of the fridge and decorate with roses. Place baby's breathe in gaps between the roses.
  • Spray with gold dust.

Notes

Quick assembly – buy an iced cake and decorate with roses. 
Roses and baby’s breathe are food safe flowers. If you want to use other flowers other than edible flowers, speak to a florist.
