GREEN TEA ICE CREAM

GREEN TEA ICE CREAM

I love ice cream, good ice cream that is. In the grocery store I find that Häagan daz is my favourite but we don’t get that many flavours or the new flavours. One of my favourites from them was the green tea vanilla honey. They don’t offer that one anymore so when I wanted to try making my own ice cream, this was the first one I wanted to try. It’s so easy to make with only three ingredients. I topped it with a beautiful floral honey and black sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whipping cream (35%MF)
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 3 tbsp matcha green tea powder

Instructions

  • Pour condensed milk into a bowl. Add the green tea powder and stir slowly until incorporated. Do not whisk or you will have green tea powder everywhere.
  • Once the green tea and condensed milk are mixed together, pour the whipped cream into the mixture. Whisk the cream to soft peaks. You should have a beautiful pale green cream.
  • Pour into a freezable container and freeze for at least 4 hours.
  • Serve with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of black sesame seeds.

Notes

One thing I noticed when making this ice cream was the cost. I got the whipping cream and condensed milk on sale so it came to around $4.50, but usually it would come to about $7. The matcha green tea powder is really expensive. I bought a 100g packet for $30, so let’s say I used $10 worth of matcha. Therefore,  1 litre cost me around $11.50. Totally worth it but good to know that this is a more expensive ice cream. I used 3 good quality ingredients and am fine with making this once in a while as a special treat. But it does make me wonder how green tea ice cream in the grocery store is sold for $4.99. I’m thinking it may have a little green tea and a lot of green food colouring and flavourings.
So if you love green tea ice cream, take the time to make it yourself so that you know you are getting green tea and quality, instead of flavourings and additives.
